Rincon Consultants, Inc. is seeking to hire seasonal staff, local to Ventura or Los Angeles County, to assist with arborist monitoring for large and small utility and transportation projects throughout California.

The primary responsibilities for this position include:

  • Experience analyzing and reporting on impacts to protected trees related to the California Environmental Quality Act
  • Tree Inventories
  • Tree Assessments/Evaluations
  • Tree Identification
  • Communication/coordination with tree trimming crews
  • Documentation and reporting
  • Compliance monitoring
  • Knowledge of local ordinances

This position serves as a liaison between Rincon, our clients, contractors, and relevant agencies to ensure projects are compliant with conditions of approval. This position requires the ability to perform extensive fieldwork on potentially difficult terrain and during adverse weather conditions, often independently, and may require occasional extended travel. The ideal candidate will be based out of Ventura, Santa Barbara, or Los Angeles County. A Rincon arborist is a specialist who is knowledgeable about the planting, caring for and maintaining of trees. International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborists® can be required by regulatory agencies to provide tree health and risk assessments, determine potential impacts to trees resulting from development and construction activities, provide mitigation recommendations, provide best management practices recommendations and prepare, interpret, and implement tree preservation and retention plants for compliance to jurisdictional requirements. Rincon’s arborists are not just ISA Certified Arborists® but have substantial experience with understanding the urban forest, assessing tree conditions and assigning standardized risk levels, detailed tree inventory programs, and the presentation of findings in a concise, high quality report. 


Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum B.S. in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, or another related field (candidates with the equivalent in knowledge and experience may also be considered)
  • International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certification required
  • General knowledge and experience conducting:
    • Tree Inventory
    • Tree Valuations and Appraisals
    • Tree Risk Assessment and Surveys
    • Tree Preservation and Protection Plans Preparation
    • Implementation
    • Long-Term Monitoring
    • Tree Removal/Construction Monitoring
    • Peer Review of Tree Inventory Plans
    • Habitat Restoration Plans Preparation
    • Implementation
    • Long-Term Monitoring
  • Map reading and field survey techniques
  • Highly motivated with excellent documentation skills, interpersonal skills, and communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Familiarity working with large utility clients or in corridors on linear projects
  • Detail oriented; resourceful; strong time management skills; ability to work independently in the field
  • Required to be at least 21 years of age
  • Ability to identify local trees and knowledge of growth rates
  • Experience working with data collection devices (i.e. tablets and electronic forms) and GIS software desired
  • Basic understanding of computers and experience with Microsoft Office Suite Required
  • Must work well with people
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong customer relation skills
  • Ability to work in varied terrain and inclement weather with flexible schedules (available nights and weekends as needed)
  • Valid Driver License and satisfactory driving record
  • Minimum qualification; successfully conducted monitoring for tree impacts for at least 2 years.
