We have an immediate opening and excellent professional growth opportunity for a Senior Environmental Planner/Scientist to join our team. The Senior Environmental Planner/Scientist will be responsible for supervising and overseeing business development, research, field work, impact analysis, and report preparation related to CEQA/NEPA and related technical studies and the following responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a business development plan to grow Rincon’s local presence in the Sacramento region. Priority clients/project types include:
    • Water supply and treatment
    • Energy utilities and renewable energy (including battery storage)
    • Transportation
    • Maximizing On-call Contracts
    • Establishing a pool of local developer clients to provide technical services, studies, and CEQA/NEPA consulting
    • Establish new and foster existing relationships with local public agencies (cities, counties, utility districts, etc.) and engineering/design firms
    • Expand Rincon’s profile with State agencies on statewide contracts
    • Identify other areas of growth in environmental consultation
  • Perform various other business development functions, including proposal preparation and active involvement in planning/environmental organizations
  • Write and manage the preparation of complex CEQA/NEPA documents
  • Oversee and train junior staff on CEQA/NEPA and other planning/environmental requirements
  • Interface with clients and make public presentations to agency decision-making bodies
  • Perform agency consultation and ensure environmental regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrate confidence in decision-making and be recognized by clients and peers as having expertise in CEQA/NEPA and related technical areas


Experience and Skills:

Qualified candidates will have completed a BA/BS degree (preferably in environmental science, urban planning or a related discipline). An Advanced Degree (Masters/PhD) is preferred. The successful candidate will possess 5+ years of experience, with concentrated experience working in the Sacramento region. Experience in a private environmental consulting firm is preferred, including schedule and budget management. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to lead a large multi-disciplinary team are also required. Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills are required. The candidate will have a willingness to travel as projects require.
