Job Description:

Rincon Consultants is looking for a senior level archaeologist to serve as a Principal Investigator (PI) to join our team of professionals and can work out of any of our 12 offices (see for our locations). Ability to serve our Sacramento and Los Angeles offices is preferred. Rincon is a consulting firm specializing in environmental management with cultural resources specialists, environmental planners, biologists, and site assessment and remediation specialists. The successful candidate will serve as a PI for projects, statewide. As a PI, the successful candidate will be responsible for executing projects and research designs for studies in support of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The PI will be responsible for the quality assurance/quality control of various cultural resources projects and working with multidisciplinary teams for successful project execution. The PI will be expected to lead standalone cultural resources studies such as Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III investigations. The PI will also contribute to documents for CEQA and National Environmental Policy Act compliance such as Environmental Impact Reports and Environmental Impact Statements. Other duties of the PI will include staff mentorship and business development.

Experience and Skills:


  • Expertise in historic and prehistoric archaeology;
  • A thorough understanding of the CEQA, NEPA, and Section 106 of the NHPA;
  • Strong technical writing skills;
  • Previous experience managing budgets, supervising personnel, task management, and proposal preparation;
  • Strong work ethic, demonstrated leadership ability, good communication skills, and ability to manage multiple projects; and
  • Prior experience in California

Highly Preferred:

  • Experience with utility providers (SoCalGas, SCE, PG&E), renewable energy providers, and Caltrans


  • M.A. or Ph.D. degree in anthropology, archaeology, historical archaeology, or related field required;
  • Minimum of 10 years of management experience in Cultural Resources Management; and
  • Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) certification required.
